Participation

If the human race is ever to get out of the mess it’s in, a moral transformation is required. Competition must be replaced by cooperation. Greed must be replaced with generosity. Materialism with spirituality. Hate with Love. In other words, the birth of a planetary Movement, with a capital M. The sudden and dramatic emergence of the Arab Spring and the Occupy movement with its 99% slogan represents humanity’s labor pangs as it attempts to bring to life a new social order. The Arab Spring has resulted in the overthrow of several national leaders, but the old order, based on violence and the suppression of freedom, remains. The Occupy movement has exposed the corruption and injustice of capitalism, but efforts at reform have failed and the movement itself has faltered from the lack of a specific plan of action. But the desire for change clearly exists, and the convulsive efforts to bring about change will continue and grow with intensity and increased frequency until those convulsions come together, coalesce, into a single overwhelming movement that finally gives birth to a whole new system of things. The idea behind the Coming Global Coalescence is to provide a plan of action by way of the Whole Earth Design Project. It is meant to provide a banner under which we can all march in unity of purpose.

Maybe, just maybe, the time is now. Let us be inspired by the words of anthropologist Margaret Mead: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” If not here, where? If not now, when? If not us, who?
