The Whole Earth Design Project is a massive undertaking, and its successful development will require enormous amounts of collective energy, wide-ranging expertise, and technological resources. But it all begins with first steps, which, at the moment, must be focused on locating those who understand and appreciate the project’s intent and would like to be involved. If you are one of such persons, please let us know by expressing your interest by way of the CONTACT form. Tell us something about yourself and how you feel you can contribute to this venture and which of the ten workgroups would most interest you.

Our plan is to continue the search for volunteer information gatherers (VIGs) to participate in this unique and major research project. Based upon the results of that effort, we hope to form ten workgroups to conduct and coordinate the research that will result in answers to the following two questions with respect to each of life’s ten essentials:

1. What percentage of Earth’s population now enjoys access to each of those essentials?

2. What would be required to expand that availability to the rest of the population?

It will be the assignment of the workgroups to assemble the various responses and answers to the two questions and prepare a report that represent the consensus of the experts. If you sign up to participate, you will be asked to join in the planning of this process as soon as we have assembled a sufficient number of participants. If you have any familiarity or expertise related to the organization of group efforts such as these, then your input would be greatly appreciated. For additional information regarding the process as we see it so far, click here.

As the project develops there will be a need for IT expertise and assistance in all the social networking possibilities, in the organization and coordination of research teams, in the collaborative creation of documents and reports, in the processing of statistical data, in the use of geographic information systems for asset location records, and so on. And while this project has been launched on a shoestring, there will be expenses and donations will also become a necessity.

In other words, there is much to do, and you are invited to participate to whatever extent you are able. We’d love to hear from you.
